    Winter Olympics

The first Winter Olympics took place in Chamonix, France in 1924. Italy is one of only 12 countries that has particpated in every Winter Olympics. Like the Summer Olympics the games were cancelled in 1940 and 1944 because of World War II. Up until 1992 the Summer and Winter Olympics were both held in the same year. It was decided that the next Olympics would be held in 1994 and then every four years after that year. Italy has hosted the Winter Olympics on two separate occasions. The first was in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the region of Veneto. The second was in 2006 in Turin, which is located in the Piedmont region.

Congratulations to all the Italian athletes who represented Italy in the Winter Olympics!
