    Our Paesani

    A Typical Summer Day

Ironically, this is also why they get to have the best summer of their life over and over again. Somehow, they are able to sleep despite the financial struggles. Basically, they all sleep in and wake up at noon, head to the beach, bum around there until they go home, and eat some delicious food made by mamma or nonna or zia. Then, they nap with everyone else during the siesta. In the evening, which starts around 9:30 p.m. for them, they might snag a few dollars from their parents for a pizza or panino and a gelato, over which they linger in the company of friends before they head to the local discoteca or bar, which is usually more about strong espresso than liquor, by the way. If they know an owner of one of these locales, then they can usually count on deep discounts or free stuff. They never go to bed before 5 in the morning. It's a wild life.

If they live in a tourist trap, such as Ischia, there are many new faces in the crowd. They happily hook up with these tourists, both for conversation or something more. There are a few celebrations during the summer months that capture their attention because they are a good excuse to indulge even more in food, drink, and the passion that comes directly from the sun's heat.
